Bird or Frog?

Freeman Dyson (1923-2020)

The Essay Birds and Frogs (German Version) by Freeman Dyson

In the issue 1 of 2020 of the journal Mitteilungen der Deutschen Mathematiker-Vereinigung the German translation of Dysons Birds and Frogs was published recently, translated by Sylvia Zirden. We were very astonished by that fact because a German translation already exists. We published that translation in our small publishing house in 2014. It was meant as an entry point and a motto for books to be published in the future. The book is equipped with a lot of illustrations. We published further books from Terence Tao, Yuri Manin, Pierre Cartier, Paul Cohen and others afterwards. The Ebook of Birds and Frogs (German version) has been downloaded over 1300 times. Freeman Dyson was very enthusiastic about the numerous illustrations, we had some discussions about the translation of the chanson from Monique Morelli/Mac Orlan, however.
